Saffron comes from two basic areas of the world,  Western Asia/Persia and Spain.  It is assumed that the Mongols and Saracens took the crocus flower from Asia to Spain, where it has flourished as well.

Saffron is the world's most expensive spice.  This is because it is completely
harvested by hand.  Saffron is the stigma from the crocus bloom and has to
be removed by hand, or it will be destroyed.  It takes one acre of blossoms
to produce 10 lbs of saffron threads.  This is about 10,000 flower per pound!

Persian saffron is recognized as the highest quality saffron on the market.
The quality, color and strength of our saffron is consistently between ISO
230 and 255.

Saffron is great for soups, pasta, risotto, stews, paella, and a myriad of other Mediterranean, Spanish, Persian and Indian dishes!
